# Cashback Card & Toast

Once the integration is connected and linked to a Cashback card (see **Settings → Integrations**, status **Active**), go to the card's own settings: **Card → Edit → Settings**.

> ℹ️ The Cashback card has **no** extra settings that appear specifically because of the Toast integration (unlike the Reward card, where you have to pick an earning mode). The one thing that needs special attention is **tiers (Levels)**.

***

#### Cashback tiers (Levels)

You can create several cashback tiers — up to **6** by default, or you can keep just one. The logic is: the cashback percentage grows along with the total amount the customer has spent over time (added up across all visits), not per single check.

Example with 3 tiers:

* As soon as the customer just gets the card — cashback is **5%**.
* Once the customer's total spend reaches **$500** — cashback goes up to **15%**.
* Once total spend reaches **$2000** — cashback goes up to **20%**.

The percentages and threshold amounts for each tier are set by you — the example above is just an illustration.

> ⚠️ **Important:** once the card is activated, tier values **can't be changed**. Make sure to double-check the percentages and threshold amounts for each tier **before** activating the card.

All other Cashback card settings are standard (including the **Design** section) and aren't related to the Toast integration, so we won't cover them here. For more on those, see the article on [setting up a Cashback card](https://docs.boomerangme.cards/cards-creation/cashback).

Once you've checked all the tiers, activate the card.

#### What this looks like in Boomerang and in Toast

After a customer's visit with a Cashback card, their profile (**Customer profile → Cashback card**) shows/updates a set of fields:

* **LTV** — the customer's total spend.
* **Current balance** — the current cashback balance.
* **Points earned** / **Points redeemed** — total points earned / redeemed.
* **Transactions amount** — the transaction total.
* **Last points earned** / **Last points redeemed** — dates of the last earning/redemption.
* **Cashback percentage** — the customer's current cashback rate (depends on their tier).
* **To the next cashback level** — how much more they need to spend to reach the next tier.
* **Cashback** — the customer's current tier name (e.g., Bronze).

On the next visit, if the customer already has a balance:

* The cashier in Toast sees the customer's accumulated points and can redeem them (**Redeem**) if the customer wants to use them.
* The card's history shows both events: **redeeming** the old points and **earning** new ones.
* New points are earned on the amount the customer **actually paid** — meaning after subtracting the redeemed discount.
* The customer gets another push notification about the balance change.

**Transaction history**

The **Last transactions** table shows every event on the card: **Transaction amount** (the check total), **Points earned**, **Visit logged** (the visit is counted), **Points redeemed** — along with the phone number, device (Apple/Google Wallet), card template, and so on.

**In the Toast admin panel**

In Toast itself (not the POS terminal, but the internal admin panel), you can find a specific order and see the details: what was in the check and what discount was applied — the data is fully transparent.

**Overall card statistics**

On the card's page (**Cashback card № ... → Statistics**), you can see aggregated stats: number of installed cards, total customers, transaction amount and count, points earned/redeemed, and reviews. You'll also find the QR code and card link there, plus **Download marketing kit** and **Download PDF** buttons.

This lets you track how well the loyalty program is being adopted by the business.

#### What this looks like on the Toast terminal (cashier)

The Cashback card isn't tied to specific menu items, categories, or a check amount — earning doesn't depend on what exactly the customer bought. It's enough that the customer came in and placed an order (a visit + an amount spent) — that's what cashback is earned on.

1. The cashier creates a new order (for example, three items — the exact contents of the check don't matter).
2. Finds the customer.

   > ℹ️ Points will be earned whether or not the customer's card is installed to a wallet. But it's better if the customer shows their card at the visit, to make sure they use their loyalty rewards.
3. If the customer hasn't had any visits yet, their point balance (**Total points**) will be **0**. That's normal — it's a new card, no rewards have built up yet.
4. Payment is processed as usual (in this example — cash, no check).
5. After payment, the customer sees a push notification on their card about the points earned.

**Redeeming**

On the same customer's next visit:

1. The cashier creates a new order again and finds the customer.
2. Toast shows the points/cashback amount accumulated from the last visit (for example, $1.80).
3. If the customer wants to use it toward payment, the cashier clicks **Redeem**. The amount is applied to the check as a discount.
4. Payment is processed.
5. The customer gets a push notification about the change in their card balance (the balance goes down by the redeemed amount).

#### Common questions

> ℹ️ **The user counter in the integration always shows 0** — this is normal, not an error. There's no user syncing in the Toast integration, so on our side, users will always show as 0.

> ℹ️ **You can upload your own customers via a file** and specify how many points each one has, then issue them a card. This needs to be done **after** the card integration is set up — not before.

> ⚠️ **The Toast POS integration is only available for customers located in the United States.**
